Tools we use
Mobbin MCP: show your AI agent real apps before it designs yours.
Mobbin’s MCP server lets a coding agent search screens and flows from shipped apps and websites, so a redesign starts from what works and not from the framework’s defaults.
In short
- The Mobbin MCP is Mobbin’s official MCP server, which lets an AI assistant search Mobbin’s library of real app and website designs.
- The Mobbin MCP has three tools: search_screens for single screens, search_flows for multi-step flows and search_sections for parts of websites.
- The Mobbin MCP is a hosted server at https://api.mobbin.com/mcp, with nothing to install and a Mobbin sign-in on first use.
- VMGM Software uses the Mobbin MCP to research a screen before redesigning it, and saves each search session as a file in the repo.
What is the Mobbin MCP?
Mobbin is a library of screens and flows from real, shipped apps and websites. The Mobbin MCP is Mobbin's official server that lets an AI assistant search that library.
So before your agent designs a screen, it can look at how real apps handle the same screen.
What does the Mobbin MCP do?
It gives the assistant three searches:
search_screensfinds single screens, like a settings page or an empty state.search_flowsfinds multi-step flows, like onboarding or checkout.search_sectionsfinds parts of websites, like pricing sections and footers.
Each result comes with a preview image and a link to the full screen on Mobbin.
Why use the Mobbin MCP?
An AI agent with no references designs the same screen every time: the framework's default look. It works, and it looks like every other AI-built app.
With Mobbin, the agent starts from what good products already do. It sees how ten apps lay out the same form, which order they put things in and what words they use. Then it builds yours.
This helps most on teams where the developers are also the designers.
How do you set up the Mobbin MCP?
There is nothing to install. It is a hosted server at
https://api.mobbin.com/mcp.
In Claude Code, run:
claude mcp add mobbin --scope user --transport http https://api.mobbin.com/mcp
In Cursor and other MCP clients, add it to your MCP config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mobbin": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.mobbin.com/mcp"
}
}
}
The first time you use it, a browser window opens so you can sign in to your Mobbin account.
How we use the Mobbin MCP
We use it on Kidtime, our mobile app, and on the websites we build, this one included.
- Search before designing. Before the agent redesigns a screen, it runs three to five searches, worded the way a designer would say it ("audience selector who can see this post"), not the way our code names things.
- Write down what to borrow and what to avoid. For each screen it keeps, the agent notes the app, the link, what to take and what to skip. For Kidtime's note form, it ran five searches and kept ideas such as tags above the text and the current location first in the place picker.
- Save the research in the repo. Each search session becomes a short file next to the code. Kidtime has more than 30 of them, so the next session does not repeat the search.
- Borrow the structure, keep the look. Mobbin settles layout, order and wording. Colours, fonts and icons stay ours, and our checks reject a colour that is not in the design system.
Where to find Mobbin MCP
Mobbin MCP is made by Mobbin, not by us. We are not paid to recommend it. Setup steps checked against Mobbin’s docs on .
Frequently asked questions
- Is the Mobbin MCP free?
Mobbin’s MCP documentation does not list a price. You sign in with a Mobbin account the first time you use it, so check Mobbin’s site for what your plan includes.
- Which AI assistants work with the Mobbin MCP?
Mobbin’s documentation has setup steps for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, ChatGPT, VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI and more. Any client that supports a hosted MCP server with OAuth sign-in can use it.
- Does the Mobbin MCP make the agent copy other apps?
It should not, and that is up to how you use it. We take layout, order and wording from the references, and keep our own colours, fonts and icons.
- Does the Mobbin MCP cover websites or only mobile apps?
Both. It searches mobile app screens and flows, and
search_sectionsfinds parts of websites such as pricing sections and footers.- Who should skip the Mobbin MCP?
A team with a designer who hands over finished screens. It helps most where the developers make the design decisions.
We set up tools like Mobbin MCP for engineering teams, along with the rules that make an agent use them well.
